In 2001 an Ashfield Primary Care Trust was established 2nd February. Operational from 1st April the trust covered full area of Ashfield, including all the following electoral wards of Jacksdale, Kirkby-in-Ashfield Central, East and West, Selston, Underwood, Woodhouse, Sutton-in-Ashfield Central, East, North and Sutton West ward encompassing Huthwaite.
On 1 April 2006 reforms to NHS dentistry were introduced (claiming the most significant changes since its inception in 1948).
On October 1st 2006, Ashfield Primary Care Trust merged along with Broxtowe & Hucknall Primary Care Trust, Gedling Primary Care Trust, Rushcliffe Primary Care Trust, Newark & Sherwood Primary Care Trust and Mansfield District Primary Care Trust to form Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust.
