Another later Huthwaite pub to be lost finally closed for business in February 2008. There were several attempts at regaining trade under various new managers and a few refurbishments over the previous years. Maybe its remoter location below Blackwell road could no longer tempt regular long walks, returning home uphill. The extended property was purchased in 2009, now re-adopted for private residental use.
Its believed this property firstly housed the pit manager of the Old Hucknall Colliery historically sited over the road below Strawberry Bank. Difficult to determine when it was turned into a public house among so few records. Our village gazetteers offer no named entry at all, so research must start from earliest memories.
One old row of small colliery cottages did long remain facing the pub. They amongst others in early census records held address Pit Row
.
That always offered an alternative local reference towards the pub itself, despite being orginally and aptly titled The Miners Arms
. Many may fondly recall it being long run by an aging Mrs Edith Yates, shown here with the landlord dating back into the 1950s thanks too Mrs Bower.
Directly fronting a lower roadside did make the property flood prone. An adjacent stream persists southward draining down from Strawberry Bank. It is only vaguely named as Blackwell Brook, but its path is what defined here the county border between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

My fathers camera captured a 1970s rear view of the building from off the garden stream. It retained a familiar layout, plus homely frontage while still keeping the usual outside toilets.
Somewhere around 1990 the property became modernised and renamed by the new owner as Godfreys
. Added kitchens, extensions and opening up an entire bar room proved a major makeover. Dining success as a Free House continued a while under some newer management. Hosting various entertainment with changes marked by reclaiming original titled reference lastly updated to just Miners Arms
failed to stem a generally falling trade, leading towards another inevitable Huthwaite pub closure.
