Mapping Huthwaite Developments

An additional source for historic reference comes from detailed maps. Early coverage of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire borders, plus Mansfield and Ashfield would all help trace residential growth of Huthwaite.

A uniquely spelt addressing Huthwaite may well prove to be since being officially renamed in 1907. Prior that year and although small in area, it held various longer titles confusingly associated with Hucknall. Our village today is more fully addressed, Huthwaite, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, England, UK. But this East Midlands area also falls under other administrative, service or divisional districts, changed and added from times long before referencing these Ashfield lands once part Sherwood Forest under Dirty Hucknall.

A Christopher Saxton is claimed to have first mapped Nottinghamshire in 1576, although I'm also intrigued for chance of viewing a 1774 detailed survey printed by John Chapman. Assistance would obviously be very welcome for sourcing access, or receipt of any digitised maps specifically examining the Huthwaite area.

Earliest found map to begin exposing Huthwaite in any detail dates from Sandersons magnificent 1835 surveys. Developments appeared by 1884 coverage, prior New Hucknall Colliery inviting fastest growth into rapidly building up a prosperous mining village. Huthwaites Urban District plans reveal modern 1917 and 1921 developments firmly established by my own 1982 Street Plans.
